Bluebonnet Books
Parents:
Our students have kicked off our Bluebonnet reading. Each year books are nominated to win the Texas Bluebonnet Award, and our students help select this book by reading at least five books and then voting for their favorite. Our librarian, Mrs. Seddighi, has already introduced them to this year's nominees. If you would like to learn more about the Blubonnet nominees, here is a link. http://txla.org/TBA-nominees
Please help me to encourage good reading choices with your child by encouraging them to read at least 5 Bluebonnet nominees. We are reading one of the books, Dying to Meet You, in class together.
Students:
Can you share what Bluebonnet book you look most forward to reading?

Estimation video
Parents:
Here is a video shot by Cassidy and Ava over estimation, rounding, and compatible numbers. It's a bit long, but I wanted to show you everything we will be using with these concepts since we use some wording that you may not have heard before. I hope this helps with Tuesday night independent practice. Let me know if you have questions.

Thick and thin questions
Students,
Today we discussed thick and thin questions. What are some THICK questions you could ask about your Just Right reading book?
I'll go first..."What if I took the main character out of the mystery I'm reading and replaced her with Junie B. Jones? I wonder how she would solve the mystery..."
Can't wait to read your questions!

Adding senses to your writing
Students:
Yesterday we discussed adding senses to your writing. When we add literal and even figurative (there's that big word again) sensory statements to our writing we really start to sound grown up. Can anyone share any other ideas on how you can hear, smell, touch, taste, and see better in your stories?
Miss Samantha shared one with me today that I'll pass on to you...Feeling: I'm steaming in the hot air. Good one, Samantha! Who's next?!?

Place Value
Parents: Here is a video shot by our own Miss Cassidy that goes over how we are learning basic place value in third grade. This is great to use for Tuesday night practice.
Sequencing
Today our students read Thunder Cake by Patricia Pollacco and practiced sequencing the events in the story. We learned new time order words and then applied our knowledge to sequence the events from Freckle Juice, a book we just finished last week. Ask your child about their lesson and their thundering!!!

Labor Day
My fabulous students:
How do you plan to spend your labor day weekend? Do you know why we observe Labor Day?
Parents: Ask your child to see the special 3 day weekend math "brainbuster" I sent home!
Don't forget that you only have to do THREE days of log since we only have a four day week.
